You're not stupid.enchanting is just confusing. A ring that does 10 fire damage can be activated multiple times in one second, thus making it dish out far more damage than a 50 point fire damage spell.Īs other people said, it offers you the ability to cast spells that you would not be able to cast otherwise. One great thing about enchantments in vanilla morrowind is that the activation is faster than casting a spell. You can easily kill most enemies (or massively wound them at the very least) with such an enchantment value. That is a lot of damage you can place on a "on use" item. An exquisite ring has an enchant value of 120. Amulets have the same amount of power, but they weigh more and you can only equip one at a time. Rings are the best thing to place enchantments on, excluding rare/unique/limited items. You can apply a weakness to frost/magicka (or both) enchantment on a weapon to rapidly increase damage on a strike (I cannot because I use a mod that disallows it). If I drop a weakness to frost/magicka spell on the monster, I am suddenly doing a lot of damage with a single swing. I do not have to worry about reflect, because nords have frost immunity. I typically play as a Nord, and I will enchant my weapons with frost damage.
